SUMMARY:Civil War Cemetery Walk and Decoration Day
DESCRIPTION:—–Memorial Day 2024—–\nAt the Ortonville Cemetery and Old Mill\nCivil War reenactors will honor the 49 Civil War Veterans buried at the Ortonville Cemetery\, and demonstrate at the Old Mill Museum. \nSee their tombstones!\nHear their history!\nFull Schedule: \n\n9:30am – 10:00am – Memorial Day Parade starts at the Old Town Hall (486 Mill Street\, Ortonville) and ends at the Ortonville Cemetery (175 N Ortonville Road\, Ortonville)\n10:00am – 10:30am – at the War Memorial in the Ortonville Cemetery – hear the history of Memorial Day\, hear the band\, remember the veterans of all wars who made the ultimate sacrifice.\n10:30am – 11:30am Cemetery Walk – Civil war reenactors will be posted at the gravesites of Civil War Veterans.   Walk from site to site\, and each historian will share that soldier’s story and how they served in the Civil War – from the First Battle of Bull Run\, Antietam\, Gettysburg\, Chickamauga\, Andersonville Prison\, through Appomattox.   Victorian ladies will be placing flowers on the graves of all Civil War soldiers in a re-enactment of the first Decoration Day (which is what Memorial Day was originally named).\n11:45am – 12:15pm – Civil War units will demonstrate at the Old Mill Museum Campus (366 Mill Street\, Ortonville)\, complete with firing demonstrations.\n11:45am – 2:00pm – Old Mill Museum Campus is open for visitors.   Visit all three floors of our museum\, including our extensive military uniform display.\n\nFor more information\, or to volunteer to participate as a re-enactor\, send a text to Alan Allgaier at 248-495-8107\, or email alan.allgaier@gmail.com \nThis event is possible thanks to help from these organizations: \n\nOrtonville Community Historical Society – https://ochsoldmill.org/\nVFW Post 582 – Ortonville – https://www.facebook.com/p/Vfw-Post-582-Ortonville-Mi-100064793315789/\nOrtonville Cemetery Association – https://www.ortonvillecemetery.com/\nOrtonville Downtown Development Authority – https://www.ortonvilledda.org/\nOakland County Parks – https://www.oakgov.com/community/oakland-county-parks\n\n
